Third Time’s A Charm, Right?
As I was preparing this post, I got this cute little package from Columbia Records.
More below.
J. Cole’s The Warm Up is a solid fucking mixtape. It plays all the way through pretty much perfectly, and pound for pound has the most replay value I’ve heard in a long time. I feel like he’s still a bit slept on though, maybe it’s because of all the hype surrounding Jay signing him, but I’ve noticed that he tends to get overlooked because of it sometimes. As if the only people who should listen to his shit are Jay stans, and anyone else gets to pass to say “fuck the hype.” I’m looking forward to where he takes it with the album both on the lyrical side, but also because he has a good ear for beats and sounds, being a producer himself.

Good to see J. Cole sticking with a consistent production team to produce his album. It’s kind of funny how the entire concept of making a cohesive album is out the window nowdays…

J. Cole needs to watch out not to be pushed in the wrong direction by other ppl’s opinions. If he stays true to himself and sticks to what he knows best, I don’t see him fail!!!
